How do I set up charity donations? – Mashgin Support Articles

📋 Overview

This guide shows how to set up charity donations for your location from Cloud. When donations are on, customers see a donation prompt on the kiosk payment screen and can choose to add a donation to their order before they pay. Donating is always optional.

You choose the charity name, the donation amounts customers can tap, and whether to offer a round-up option or a donate button in the cart.

⚙️ How to Set Up Donations

Step 1. Navigate to Cloud

Go to cloud.mashgin.com and select your location.

Step 2. Open Donations settings

Go to Settings → Checkout → Donations.

Step 3. Turn on Ask customers to donate

Turn on the Ask customers to donate toggle. This adds a donation prompt to the kiosk payment screen.

Once the toggle is on, the donation fields below appear.

Step 4. Enter the charity name

In Charity name, type the name of the organization you're collecting for. Customers see "Donate to" followed by this name, so check the spelling.

Step 5. Set your donation amounts

Under Donation amounts, enter the amounts customers can tap on the payment screen. They appear in the order you list them.

Click + Add amount to add another amount

Click the x next to an amount to remove it

You can add up to 5 amounts

Each amount must be between $0.01 and $99.99

Step 6. Choose your extra options

Turn these on or off to fit your location:

Show round-up button: offers to round the order total up to the next dollar. When on, it's shown first, before your donation amounts.

Show donate button in the cart: adds a donate button to the cart screen, so customers can add a donation of any amount before they pay. This option needs extra setup on the Mashgin side, so contact Mashgin Support before turning it on.

Step 7. Save your changes

Click Save.

For immediate updates on the kiosk, tap Sync DB. Otherwise, the changes will sync in about 5–10 minutes.

🛍️ What Customers See at Checkout

When the customer reaches the payment screen, they see the donation options in this order:

Round up to the next whole dollar, if Show round-up button is on. This is the first button, and it shows the amount needed to reach the next dollar. For example, on a $14.99 order the button shows $0.01 and the total becomes $15.00.

Your donation amounts, in the order you listed them.

Customers can pick one option or skip donating. When they tap an amount, the donation is added as its own line under the charity name and the Amount Due updates. To remove it, they tap the same amount again. Their choice only counts once they continue to payment.

If Show donate button in the cart is on, customers can also tap the donate button on the cart screen and enter any amount before they pay.

🧾 How Donations Show Up

The donation is added after taxes, fees and discounts, so none of those are charged on the donation amount.

The donation prints on the customer's receipt as its own line, just above the Total.

To refund an order that included a donation, use the standard refund steps linked below.

After saving and syncing, run a small test order on the kiosk and go to the payment screen. Check that the charity name is spelled correctly and that the amounts match what you entered.

To stop asking for donations, go back to Settings → Checkout → Donations, turn off Ask customers to donate, and click Save.
