Cashier Guide
How to run a shift with a cash drawer: opening a till, taking cash payments, safe drops, pay-ins and payouts, no sale, and closing out.
๐ Overview
This guide walks through a full shift on a kiosk with a cash drawer, in the order you will do it: open a till, take cash payments, drop excess cash, handle any non-sale cash movement, and close out at the end.
You must open a till before the kiosk will accept any cash. With no active till, the Cash button is greyed out on both the customer screen and the cashier screen.
๐ Opening a Till
Do this at the start of every shift.
Step 1. Open the cash drawer menu
On the cashier screen, go to the Cash Drawer menu and choose Open Till.
Step 2. Enter your starting float
Enter the cash you are starting with. You can either count it out by denomination or enter a single total amount.
Step 3. Confirm
The till opens and the Cash button becomes available on both screens.
Only one till can be active at a time on a kiosk. Till numbers start over at 1 each business day.
๐ต Taking a Cash Payment
Step 1. The kiosk alerts you
When a customer chooses to pay with cash, the kiosk flashes its lights yellow and plays a "Cash payment selected" voice alert. The customer screen prompts them to hand their cash to you.
Step 2. Enter the amount handed to you
A window opens on the cashier screen. Enter the amount the customer gave you. The kiosk works out the change due and shows it on both your screen and the customer's.
Step 3. Open the drawer and make change
Press Open Drawer. The drawer kicks open. Put the cash in, take the change out, and hand it to the customer.
If the customer is only paying part of the total in cash, the kiosk returns to the tender screen so the rest can be paid another way.
๐ฆ Safe Drop
A safe drop moves excess cash out of the drawer and into the safe. The kiosk shows a Safe Drop Required alert on the cashier screen once the drawer balance passes the limit your manager set.
- From the Cash Drawer menu, choose Safe Drop.
- Enter the amount you are pulling out.
- Pick a reason code.
- Confirm: The drawer opens so you can remove the cash.
- Optionally print a cash inventory receipt to go with the drop.
๐ Pay-In, Payout, and No Sale
These three move cash, or open the drawer, outside of a sale. All three work the same way: enter an amount, pick a reason code, and the drawer opens. Every one is recorded.
๐ฒ Pay-In
Adds cash to the drawer for a non-sale reason, for example correcting a float that was short.

๐ธ Payout
Removes cash from the drawer for a non-sale reason, for example paying a vendor on delivery.

๐ No Sale
Opens the drawer without moving any money. Use it to break a bill into change, check whether you have enough small denominations, or test that the drawer opens. It does not change your expected balance, but it is logged.
If your cashier tier does not have permission for pay-in or payout, the kiosk will ask for a manager PIN.
๐ Checking Till History
From the Cash Drawer menu, choose Tills to see the active and closed tills for the current business day on that kiosk. Tap into any till to see every cash event recorded against it: sales, safe drops, pay-ins, payouts, and no sales, in order.
This is the fastest way to find out where a discrepancy came from before you close out.

๐ Closing a Till
Do this at the end of every shift.
Step 1. Start the close
From the Cash Drawer menu, choose Close Till.
Step 2. Count the drawer
Count the cash in the drawer and enter it. Count everything, including coins.
Step 3. Review the variance
The kiosk compares what you counted against what it expected and shows the over/short difference. The till is then closed and its balance is locked.
Always close your till before you leave. Open tills do not close themselves at the end of the business day, and a till left open will distort the next day's reporting.
Seeing the expected balance and the over/short amount requires permission. If those figures are hidden on your screen, ask a manager.
